Over mij:

Hello! I've joined Bibliotheek 2.0 to learn about libraries in the Netherlands. I haven't learned Dutch yet, so it's slow going! But so far my almost fluent German and free online translators are helping me a bit. I'm most interested in understanding what education and degrees Dutch librarians get and in what sort of positions I could use my American MLIS in your country.
I currently work in as a Media Librarian in a multimedia communications department of a large healthcare organization and I've worked as a reference librarian in several public libraries. What rocks my library world? Web 2.0 and libraries, new technologies in libraries, digital libraries, outreach to non-users, bridging the digital divide, information literacy instruction and working with immigrant populations. If anyone would like to discuss these topics, I'd love to hear from you!

Thansk for the reply..I understand that it is difficult for you to get information on the equivalence of your degree in the Netherlands. Did you ever try to contact the Information Beheer Groep? They must be able to answer your questions. Look under Diploma Assessment. You can also send them an e-mail.

I've been to Galway a few times and really liked it there. I find the Middle Eastern text of the Chester Beatty Library especially beautiful and look at the Image Gallery of the CBL website sometimes just to see them.

Welcome to our Bibliotheek 2.0 community. In the early nineties I lived in Boston, MA and experienced a bit of American librarianship. Though I didn't work in a public library I really likes the experience. I remember that my Dutch library degree was equivalent to a BA. I wanted to get an MLS from Simmons College, but had to turn it down because of the costs..Oh well..
From your personal information I get a feeling that you might be interested in getting a job over here?
